Art Class Kit for Senior Schools

My kids’ art teacher emailed me a list of supplies that would be helpful to them for the coming term. (Normally the school supplies all their art materials – but due to the COVID-19 situation, the kids are all schooling at home)

Now if there’s one thing I love shopping for, it is fresh art supplies!

The silky feel of new paper, the intoxicating scent of new markers and the vision of a new set of pristine watercolour paints…ah yes…

Is it the sense of possibility that excites us? It is like being in a movie theatre when the lights dim and the adventure is about to begin.

The shopping list looked like this:

Essential Items:

  • Drawing pencils HB, 2B, 4B 6B
  • Rubber Erasers x 2 (one for precision work, one for messy work)
  • Set of coloured pencils (must contain primary and secondary colours)
  • A ruler
  • A4 Paper

Optional Items:

  • Sketchbook
  • Plastic or Leather A3 or A2 Portfolio
  • Watercolour paint set
  • At least 3 paintbrushes of varying size (a larger variety preferred)
  • Chalk pastels
  • Oil pastels
  • Acrylic Paint set
  • Oil Paint set with odour free turpentine (or water-soluble oils)

At the end of the teachers’ email, he included a link to a local art supply store in a nearby town, that I didn’t even know existed! (We only recently moved here).

The store has a lot of experience with local schools and had put together a list of kits that would cover most of their needs.

The other items included were the glue stick, soft rubber eraser, the metal sharpener, the A4 Sketchbook and the Tuff bag (under the sketchbook) to carry around all his supplies.

The only extra thing I ordered that wasn’t part of the kit was the A3 Premium presentation portfolio (£18.00 inc.VAT), which although – was purchased so that the kiddo can tote their artwork to and from school (when they physically return) – it is so nice I might keep it for when I want to take printed portfolio work to clients.

Lastly, I want to mention how great Artway were at communicating with me throughout the ordering and delivery process. They are currently still able to operate safely during the lockdown and they let me know exactly when the package would be arriving. It arrived really fast (within 3 days) at exactly the time specified.

I’m pleased to be able to support a local business, especially one that provides such a lovely service.

They also offer a discount to students!
